On October 25, 2022, the World Health Organization released its first-ever list of health-threatening fungi. They stated, “Emerging from the shadows of the bacterial antimicrobial resistance pandemic, fungal infections are growing, and are ever more resistant to treatments, becoming a public health concern worldwide.” Their most dangerous (“critical”) group includes Cryptococcus neoformans (an encapsulated yeast), Aspergillus fumigatus (a harmful mold), Candida albicans, and Candida auris. Being mainstream physicians, they only recognize the obvious and advanced cases, and the subclinical presentations are consistently overlooked.
In contrast, many holistic-integrative physicians treat illnesses with an understanding that one or more species of disease-causing yeast participate in causing a variety of illnesses. They know candidiasis commonly begins within the gut and then progresses to be invasive and systemic. Moreover, its assault to the gut wall creates inflammation, biofilms, injury, and damage that cannot simply be corrected with pre/probiotics and localized herbal therapies.
